District 8 Farm & Ranch CEU Program

The Texas Pesticide Law requires that a person may not use a restricted-use or state-limited-use pesticides or regulated herbicides unless licensed or certified by the Texas Department of Agriculture. All applicators must obtain continuing education units (CEU’s) to renew their license.
Private Applicators License must obtain 15 hours of CEU’s every five years to renew/recertify their license. These hours must be from 2 hours of Laws and Regulations, 2 hours of Integrated Pest Management (IPM), and any mix of these and General hours to equal the required 15 hours of CEU’s. Licensed commercial and non-commercial applicators are required to recertify every year by obtaining five continuing education credits; with one credit each from two of the following categories: laws and regulations, integrated pest management or drift minimization.
There will be Mass CEU Seminar hosted at multiple locations across Texas A&M AgriLife Extension District 8 on Thursday, December 10, 2015. This seminar will offer eight (8) CEU’s for the private applicator license and certificate holders. The approved credit hours are: five (5) General, one (1) Laws and Regulation, two (2) IPM hours. Commercial and non-commercial license holders will be able to obtain all of their needed hours for license renewal with the first 5 hours of the program.
Topics and speakers include: Local Laws & Regulation; Forage Pest Management – Dr. Sonja Swiger, Asst. Professor & Extension Entomologist; Riparian Watershed Management – Ricky Linex, Natural Resource Conservation Service Wildlife Biologist; Protecting Our Pollinators – Mark Dykes, Chief Apiary Inspector, Texas Apiary Inspection Service; Tree & Turf Diseases – Dr. Kevin Ong, Associate Professor & Director of the Texas Plant Disease Diagnostic Laboratory; Range & Pasture Health Considerations – Dr. Larry Redmon, Professor & State Extension Forage Specialist; Controlling Weeds & Brush With Prescribed Burning and Brush Control Technologies, Dr. Morgan Russell, Assistant Professor & Extension Range Specialist.
The Coryell County Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will be hosting this program at the Gatesville Civic Center located at 301 Complex Circle Gatesville, Texas. Persons interested in attending this program on December 10, 2015 must register before December 7, 2015 and can do so by calling the Coryell County Extension Office at 254-865-2414. In order to guarantee your participation within the program you must pre-register by the said date. The cost of registration is $50 with will also include lunch during the program.
